Alex‚ who set up the Walk Children's Church project‚ and Christopher who is the main teacher.
This is the rubbish dump for the town of Nakuru‚ Kenya. This area is called London and is where most of the children from the Walk live. Before the project opened‚ they used to spend their days scavenging through the rubbish for things to eat or sell.
This is all the staff and children at the Walk 3 months after it opened.
All the children assembled in the playground before school starts in the morning‚ for prayer time.
Thanks to kind sponsers‚ the Walk was able to purchase some nearby land and build a new school‚ which has enough room for the children to fit in the classrooms‚ more light and a kitchen on site.
Watching tea time was one of the sweetest things i have ever seen‚ the children all sat round and prayed together‚ and then the older children were helping the younger ones to sit down and to eat!
Some of the children playing together and learning that its not a good idea to put a bucket on your head!
Some missionaries had kindly funded for an aquapontic??? (involves fish and flower beds) sysytem to be installed on the roof of the New Life centre. It involved 10 giant flower beds in boxes being linked to a big pond‚ and the water circulates between them‚ circling the nutrients so that the fish flourish and the plants grow quickly.
This is everyone gathered on the terrace outside the kitchen.
Everyone helps to serve and cook and everyone washes up their own plates! The food was AMAZING!!!
This is a photo of the Walk children who have been lucky enough to be sponsored to go to 'real' school‚ all dressed in their new uniforms‚ ready to go and looking so beautifully smart!
Playing catch with some of the children at breaktime!
The children from the Prison school (just the name of the school - don't worry) come back to the Walk for lunch.
My class being noisy little red indians.
A school dress very much in need of repair - or replacing!
Ridiculously hot but really tasty!
Helping with the washing up after breakfast
The centre has such beautiful surroundings‚ with a panoramic view over this part of the Kathmandu Valley‚ and the jungle just behind (apparently a Tiger ate their last dog!!!)‚ they hope to continue building and open a hotel to become more self sufficient.
Starting to dig the pond for the fish to go in‚ unfortunatly there were lots of huuuuge rocks to move!
Some of the children get to break up the rocks we have removed to be used to make bricks for building - not fair‚ this is a much more fun job than digging up the rocks in the first place!!
