Fairly Amy: Beautifully Sustainable Handmade Fashion
Fairly Amy: Beautifully Sustainable Handmade Fashion
The brand 'Fairly Amy', created by ethical fashion designer Amy Manning, was chosen for two main reasons;
Fairly Amy has a selection of creations mainly made from recycled clothes. Amy believes that all clothes have a history and should never be thrown away. Even if the style of the garment has gone waaay out of fashion, the fabric can always be used for something else, even if it is just a pocket lining!
Amy believes that in creating new looks for ourselves we should try and minimize the damage we cause to the environment, so uses old clothes which have been rescued from just being tossed in the bin, buttons and trimmings mostly come from charity shops (or her grandma's amazing button tin - or Lou's Nan's amazing supply of sparkly things - thanks!) and all new materials are organic and often fairly traded cotton, hemp and bamboo fabrics.
About the designer.
From a very young age Amy enjoyed coming up with exciting creations (and making lots of mess), usually these random creations ended up being given to her Mum as presents (lucky her!)
Amy absolutely loves pattern cutting, makes all her garment patterns from scratch which means that all her designs are completely unique!
Amy is a self confessed squirrel which means she has LOADS of exciting materials to work with for her creations!
Amy graduated from Portsmouth University with a degree in Fashion (& a bit of Textiles & Business) and specialised in ethical fashion garments!
Amy loves making new out of old and giving a new bit of life to something that would otherwise have ended up in the bin!
